Aspects of Applied Biology No. 65 comprises the papers and posters presented at an AAB conference at University of York on 18-21 December 2001. This conference focused on crops grown either as biofuels for thermo-chemical conversion, or as sources of natural fibres.

This event provided an update on progress in the now rapidly developing biomass industry. The potential impacts of climate change are clearer, biomass-burning power stations are running in the UK, and progress is being made with liquid biofuels. UK, European and global governmental commitments to Renewables has increased. The conference provided an overview of the principles and policies underlying biomass and fibre crop production. Also featured is detailed consideration of topics such as species selection, agronomy, genetics, physiology, environmental issues, harvesting, storage and utilisation. It is hoped that this will appeal to a broad range of interests from fundamental and applied scientists, to policy makers, farmers, growers and industrialists.
