This is a collection of 15 papers that were produced following the AAB conference "Optimisation of water use by plants in the Mediterranean", held in Majorca, Spain in March 2003. They were originally published across three issues of Annals of Applied Biology in volumes 144 and 146 (2004 and 2005).

They originated from an accompanying measure, OPTIMISE (Optimisation of water use by plants in the Mediterranean) Contract number: ICA3-CT-2002-50005 from European Commission programme IBCO2.
