This is the 2nd in the series of conferences on "Greening the Food Chain"

Measuring "green" - does Life Cycle Analysis make sense for food?

Society of Chemical Industry, Belgrave Square, London
6 February 2008
BASIS points have been applied for

Meeting aims:

We will seek together to consider the issues associated with assessment of the environmental impact of food chains and the application of LCA methods. The focus will not be on the results of LCA approaches, but instead on the methods and assumptions inherent in the methods together with an evaluation of LCA alongside other possible tools for assessing environmental impact in the food chain.

Substantial research effort has been directed at improving efficiency and developing innovative solutions which reduce environmental impact and/or increase sustainability in the food chain. A number of industry and government initiatives are working towards similar goals.

This series of meetings will provide opportunities for stakeholders throughout the food chain to:

• highlight new approaches

• review the success of initiatives currently in place

• consider the trade-offs and interactions that take place throughout the food chain.

Conferences currently taking bookings and/or offers of papers

• Pesticide free – what is attainable? Celebrating and learning from success.

• Food security – at what scale? Exploring the limits of localisation in the food chain.

• Traceability – tracking and tracing in the food chain (15 October 2008)

• Measuring and marketing the environmental costs and benefits of agricultural practice.
