SUMMARY:Advances in Integrated Pest and Pathogen Management
DESCRIPTION:Visit Event Website\nIn this exciting meeting we are bringing together the interests of the AAB Applied Plant Pathology and Biocontrol and IPM groups to explore IPM strategies for both pest and pathogen management. We encourage abstract submissions from anyone working on the biology/ecology of IPM projects or in policy research that explores how these strategies can be implemented. In particular we encourage submissions about research/opinion that measure the effectiveness (or not) of the economic-drivers for the uptake of IPM strategies\, both within UK agriculture and farther afield. This event takes place at the Belmont Hotel in Leicester city cebtre\, which is a 5 minutes walk from Leicester train station. Leicester station is on a main North-South trainline so is within easy access from across the UK and beyond. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe meeting begins in the morning of November 11th and finishes in the afternoon of November 12th.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload Preliminary Schedule (PDF)\nWe are delighted to confirm these invited speakers: \n\nJim Dunwell (Chair of the Advisory Committee on Releases to the Environment (ACRE)\nMartin Lines (Nature Friendly Farming Network (NFFN))\nPaul Wilson (University of Nottingham)\nAmma Simon (University of Nottingham)\nJonathan Jones (The Sainsbury Lab\, Norwich\, TBC)\nJoe Helps (Rothamsted Research)

Never in the history of photosynthesis research\, however\, has progress in our understanding of photosynthetic mechanisms\, regulation and improvement been made as rapidly as it has over the past 5 years. Nature makes photosynthesis look easy\, but the construction of artificial photosynthetic systems remains challenging. Substantial efforts to improve the efficiency and productivity of photosynthesis have the potential to increase crop yields without further increasing fertilizer and water use.  \nMoreover\, tailoring photosynthesis to meet the needs of nature-based solutions to climate change and to the sustainability of food production remain global challenges that have to be addressed by the photosynthesis community. This meeting will galvanise participants from academia and industry to translate this new mechanistic understanding of photosynthetic function into improved crop production and more efficient terrestrial carbon sinks. \n\nSchedule highlights\nTwo Keynote Talks and Twelve Plenary Speakers \n\nDanielle Way (Australian National University)\nDavid Baker and Nathan Ennist\,( University of Washington)\n\nTwenty-five Concurrent Sessions \nEarly Bird Registration closes on April 10th 2026 \nDownload preliminary schedule (Feb 28th\, PDF) \nAssociated with the main meeting are a series of Satellite Meetings both before and after ICPR26. \nOrganised by AAB on behalf of the International Society of Photosynthesis Research

SUMMARY:International Symposium on Rice Functional Genomics 2026
DESCRIPTION:Visit Event Website\nRegistration and Abstract Submission is now open. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are delighted to bring ISRFG26 to London at the historic Royal Society. \nOn behalf of the Organizing Committee\, we are pleased to invite you to London to participate in the 23rd International Symposium on Rice Functional Genomics (ISRFG 2026) \, to be held 08 – 10 September\, 2026. \nRice  is the most important food crop in the world – feeding ½ the planet. As  the world’s population approaches 10 billion by 2050\, we must do all we  can to develop new varieties that are more nutritious\, climate  resilient\, and require fewer inputs (e.g.\, fertilizers\, pesticides\,  water).\nTo  help meet this future demand\, rice scientists around the globe united  in a $200M USD project to sequence the rice genome – the International  Rice Genome Sequencing Project (IRGSP) – which was completed in November  of 2004 – and was the first reference genome for any crop plant. Over the past 20+ years this landmark accomplishment has led to thousands of  novel discoveries and insights that have positively impacted the rice  farmer’s ability to grow rice sustainably and bring a premium market  price. As we deal with inevitable man-made climate change\, growing rice is becoming a viable option in an increasing number of countries. As the breadth of rice-growing countries widens we are delighted to bring ISRFG26 to the UK\, a country which is performing an increased amount of rice research. Furthermore\, UK researchers have a strong history of collaborations with colleagues in the traditional rice-growing areas.      \nThe 2026 meeting will host keynote\, plenary and concurrent sessions alongside a poster session and local visit. The  format of the meeting will be three days of lectures\, workshops\, and a poster session. There will be a final fourth day visit to a scietifically relevant location in London (TBC). \nISRFG26 will be a great opportunity to  showcase rice research in emerging rice-growing countries whilst bringing together collaborators at a historic venue in London. ISRFG26 is being organised in collaboration with the Association of Applied Biologists\, a scientific society that was founded in London in 1904 and supports researchers who are involved in many subjects area that aim to improve agricultural productivity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nISRFG26 takes place at The Royal Society in Central London.  \nThe venue includes the Welcome Trust Lecture theatre\, City of London suite and other beautiful spaces for posters and concurrent sessions. \n\nConfirmed Speakers \nWe are delighted to confirm the Plenary speakers who will share their exciting current research at ISRFG 2026. \n– Ashwani Pareek\, Sneh Pareek\, Rod Wing\, Jitender Giri \n– Qifa Zhang\, Xuewei Chen\, Emmanuel Guiderdoni\, Nelson Saibo \n– Adam Price\, Amelia Henry\, Siwaret Arikit\, Nguyen Thi Lang \n– Andy Jones\, Pallavi Singh\, Ian Dodd\, Julian Hibberd \n– Rory Hornby\, Bipin Pandey\, Adriana Botes \n  \n\n\nDraft Schedule\n\n> Tuesday September 8th: \nWelcome\, Opening Keynote and Plenary Session \nLunch \nConcurrent Sessions \nConference Social event (outside Royal Society) \n> Wednesday September 9th: \nPoster hanging \nPlenary Sessions \nLunch \nConcurrent Sessions \nPoster Session and Drinks Reception \n> Thursday September 10th: \nPlenary Sessions \nLunch \nPlenary Sessions and Closing Keynote \n> Friday September 11th \nVisit to Kew Gardens

SUMMARY:Sustainable Crop Nutrition: AAB President's Meeting 2026
DESCRIPTION:VISIT EVENT WEBSITE\n17 November 2026 – 18 November 2026\nThe Guildhall York\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInorganic nutrients that are critical for crop growth\, health and productivity must be absorbed from the soil and distributed around the plant. Research over past few decades has established the fundamental mechanisms underpinning inorganic nutrient transport. \nHowever\, plant-soil interactions and regulatory processes that enable efficient absorption and distribution are only just becoming understood. This meeting will address issues of crop nutrition from a global sustainability perspective\, ranging from soil health and fertilizer use to distribution of minerals that are essential for human nutrition to edible parts of plants. \nThe AAB President’s Meeting is a biennial celebration of the research interests of the outgoing AAB President. We are delighted to organise this event on behalf of Professor Dale Sanders FRS. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInvited Speakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are delighted to confirm these invited speakers: \nStephanie Swarbreck (Niab): Uptake of nutrients: Wheat Nitrogen Requirements (Title tbc) \nUte Kraemer (University of Bochum): Distribution of nutrients within crops (Title tbc) \nTim Mauchline (Rothamsted Research): Impact of structure and function of crop root microbiomes on nutrient cycling \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe encourage abstract submissions in the following themes\, although this is not an exhaustive list. \n– Soil-plant interactions \n– Fertilizers and the environment \n– Nutrient distribution within the plant \n– Improving nutritional quality \n– Technological advances for analysing crop-nutrient interactions \nSUBMIT an ABSTRACT
