SUMMARY:Monogram 2027
DESCRIPTION:Monogram 2027 Website Coming Soon\nThe Monogram Network was established in 2005 and consists of mostly UK-based researchers with an active interest in small grain cereals and grass (including C4 energy grasses). A primary aim is to link academia with commercial science and crop breeding\, Monogram 2026 will include both basic and more applied research and its members span disciplines including plant genetics\, physiology\, pathology\, breeding\, and bioinformatics.  \nFrom 2026\, Monogram linked up with the AAB to organise their annual meeting\, which will simplify the organisation challenges and provide financial security. Attendees of Monogram 2027 have the opportunity to join AAB for a year (see AAB member benefits). The Monogram Steering Group will still make all scientific decisions about the meeting. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMonogram 2027 takes place on the main campus of the University of Nottingham\nMonday March 22nd- Thursday March 25th.\nInformation about Registration and Abstract Submission will be published later in Autumn 2026

SUMMARY:International Advances in Plant Virology 2027 (IAPV27)
DESCRIPTION:VISIT EVENT WEBSITE\nPlant  viruses cause global and regional economic and societal losses\, being  responsible for a significant proportion of devastating emergent and  re-emergent plant diseases. \nThe  AAB ‘International Advances in Plant Virology (IAPV)’ conference has a  broad remit where we invite participation from scientists who are  interested in all aspects of plant virology. These research areas might  be on the molecular mechanisms of plant-virus interactions; the applied  consequences of plant virus infection; evolutionary and ecological  aspects of plant viruses and exploring how plant viruses can be utilised in biotechnology. \nWe are very excited that IAPV27 will be organised at the University of Cambridge in the UK. This follows on the very successful IAPV25 in which over 250 delegates joined the meeting online or in Murcia\, Spain. \nIAPV27 is organised with the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network Viroidoc. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConfirmed Speakers and Schedule\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will share the full schedule in February 2027 but we are delighted to welcome these confirmed speakers: \nManfred Heinlein (Institute of plant molecular biology IBMP\, Strasbourg\, France) \nChristina Wege (University of Stuttgart\, Germany) \nDavid Baulcombe (University of Cambridge) \nMarion Clavel (Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology\, Potsdam\, Germany) \nJohn Carr (University of Cambridge) \nLouise McNamara (Teagasc\, Ireland) \nRichard Kormelink (Wageningen University\, The Netherlands) \n\nAbstract Submission\nWe encourage abstract submissions from anyone working in the broad research topic of Plant Virology. \nImportantly there will be plenty of opportunities for early career professionals to present provide an oral or poster presentation. \nAbstract submission deadline for Oral presentations: January 20th 2027 \nAbstract submission deadline for Poster presentations: February 20th 2027 \nSUBMIT ABSTRACT HERE\nTopics for abstract submissions: \nWe will ask you to select the broad topic that is the best fit for your abstract. This does not rule you out for being selected for other  sessions but just helps abstract management. \ni. Viroids \nii. Viromics and characterisation of novel viruses \niii. Ecology and community analyses \niv. Virus transmission \nv. Host responses \nvi. New research tools\, technology or resources \nvii. Mechanisms of infection \nviii. Virus diagnostics \nix. Other

SUMMARY:Plant Biology Education 2: Partnerships\, Learning\, Audiences and Networks for Teaching (PLANT).
DESCRIPTION:VISIT EVENT WEBSITE\nAAB are delighted to be organising a follow-up meeting to the very successful Plant Science Education meeting held in Lancaster in January 2025. We were delighted to publish a ‘Manifesto for Plant Science Education’ that resulted from discussions held within that meeting. \nAlvey et al (2025) A manifesto for plant science education https://nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ppp3.70115 \nThis event takes place in Churchill College\, Cambridge University on Tuesday April 13th-Wednesday April 14th 2027. \n This meeting will include plenary talks\, workshops and a poster session\, all of which will allow participants to share their ideas\, successes and challenges of plant science teaching. This event has a focus on higher education teaching but we hope it will be relevant for school-teachers. Indeed we will include a session that focusses on secondary education. \nThe event will be organised as a hybrid event so hope that those people who are unable to travel to Cambridge\, can join the event online. \nAs ever we aim to keep delegates fees as low as possible as we are aware that there is often less conference-funding available for those people with a teaching-focus.  \nRegistration and abstract submission is now open. Abstract submission closes on February 1st 2027. \nTravel grants are available for application by all delegates.Preferential will be given to Early Career Professionals (ECPs) but the awards are not limited to ECPs.  \nDownload an application form here (.doc) \nThanks to our generous sponsors.

SUMMARY:Long Term Experiments 2027: Lessons Learnt and Future Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:VISIT EVENT WEBSITE\nWe invite you to ‘Save the Date’ for\n‘Long Term Experiments 2027: Lessons Learnt and Future Sustainability’.\nThis conference takes place in South Africa at Stellenbosch University and will include a day-visit to the Langgewens Research Farm.  \nLong-term experiments (LTEs) are valuable resources to assess the sustainability  and resilience of agricultural practices and systems. \nIt is important to host this event in the Global South so as to provide more opportunities for local delegates to attend a high-profile international conference and also to highlight the crucial need for more LTEs in the Global South.  \nThis conference will focus on using LTEs to meet current and future challenges in agriculture. We will explore how LTEs are advancing agronomy\, agroecology\, soil science\, crop science modelling and statistics to underpin farming systems that support nutritious diets while safeguarding our environment. \nA key conference focus will be to discuss how LTE datasets can be used to impact future farming practices. We will explore how LTEs can be redesigned so that they remain relevant in a changing climate. \nThe conference includes two days of oral presentations\,  posters and entertainment at Stellenbosch University. On the third day delegates will travel to the Langgewens Research Farm  for talks from local experts and research site tours. \nThis is the third LTE conference organised by the Association of Applied Biologists\, following successful events at Rothamsted Research in 2023 and Newcastle in 2018. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nConference Schedule\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe majority of speakers will be selected from submitted abstracts\, which represents a fantastic opportunity for early career researchers to present their work at an international conference.  \nAbstract submission will open in late 2026. \nThe Scientific Organising Committee will announce invited Keynote speakers later in 2026. \nDraft List of Conference Topics: \n– Sustainability and redesign of LTEs \n– Soil health across LTEs   \n– Facilitating farmer community engagements with LTEs \n– LTEs as a tool for modelling agricultural systems under global climate change \n– Maximising diverse outputs and societal value of LTEs \n– Methods for integrating LTEs with Living Labs \n– Enabling student participation and public engagement with LTEs \n– LTEs as a gold standard to develop new tools for data analysis\, data reuse and data curation  \n– Lessons learnt from the global network of LTEs   \n– Examine the role of LTEs in evaluating the credibility of ‘Monitoring\, Reporting and Verification (MRV)’ claims and policy
